“Maria Auxiliadora” is the first mixed Chorale that was grounded in the Canary Islands, and had its origin in 1945, when a Religious "Sister Pino", who conducted the nuns choir  of  the Military Hospital Chapel  of Santa Cruz de Tenerife , incorporated four masculine voices, among them was the Conductor-Founder of our Chorale: Mr. Juan Luis Coello Rodriguez.  The 8th  December  1945, this chorale group  went to Arafo to sing The Mass  of the Immaculate Conception Virgin, and as a result of  this success, Mr. Juan Luis Coello, decided to ground a choir in Arafo. 

The following year,  1.946, the Chorale performed  on the 24th.  of May, (Day  of  Virgin Maria Auxiliadora), that is the reason  of its name,  the interpretation  was: The Mass "Tedeum Laudamus" of Perossi, for two voices and organ. 

In the initial years, the Chorale sang in some events, which took place  in Arafo’s Village: Celebration of  the Carmen Virgin,  Christmas, Mass of  St. John, (Patron Saint of the Arafo), etc.

In the 60’s  , the chorale increase its  repertoire with new songs: "a capella" , “Motetes”, “Havanans”, “Zarzuelas” (Typical classic Spanish music), “Opera”,  “Christmas Songs”,  “Black Spiritual” , etc. 

The Chorale had a great success in the Contest "Peace on Earth" that was celebrated in Christmas Time, in the Garcia Sanabria’s Park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where, with  its cord’s group, the chorale obtained four first consecutive prizes during the years 1.967, 1.968, 1.969 and 1.970,  also a second prize in a Contest organized by “Caja de Ahorros” of Tenerife. 

The Chorale has participated in Operas like: "Aída", "Nabucco", "Norma", "La  Forza del Destino", "Don Giovanni" and "La Traviata", together  with the Choirs "Agustín Angel"  of the “Asociación Tinerfeña de Amigos de la Opera (A.T.A.O.).  The chorale also participated in “Descendimiento y Novenario”  of the La Laguna Christ, Celebrations of the Candelaria Virgin Crowning Day (Patron Saint of the Canary Islands), visit of the Spanish Kings  (the Chorale was  congratulated  by Her Majesty: Ms. Sofía Queen.)

Singing with   the Music Bands of our Town "Nivaria" and "La Candelaria", and  of Towns, like: Adeje, Guia de  Isora, Tejina, San Miguel, etc. 

Other outstanding participation:  III Festival Adeje Music, in 1.973;  Celebrations by the City council of Arafo, to D. Modesto Fraile, Civil Governor in 1.973;  Music-Cultural Week, together with the Music Bands "La Candelaria", "Nivaria" and the Chorale "Agustín Angel" of the A.T.A.O., in 1.977;  Commemorative acts of the  71st. Anniversary of the "Union and Progress Casino" as well as in Cultural Days and celebration the 75st. Anniversary of this  Society;   V “Encuentro Coral”  of La Laguna City, in 1.983;  Sacred concert in Arafo’s Church, together with the Chorale of the “Venezuela House” , in the Canary Islands;  Performance in the I Edition of the “New Year’s Concert”  in the "Cultural Center and Recreation Casino" of Arafo, in 1.984;  “Encuentro Coral” in Granadilla, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos, Garachico, Güímar, etc.  Although, without a doubt, the most important performance, like the one of all the groups of  Arafo, took place the 24th. June of 1,994, interpreting in just inaugurated Auditórium Juan Carlos I, the Pasodoble "Canary Islands", for the Kings of Spain. 

Outside  Tenerife  the chorale has  traveled to Lanzarote in two occasions, singing in “Los Jameos del Agua” in the  San Ginés’s Church,  La Gomera, La Palma, Gran Canaria for   the I Regional Contest of Chorales.  In Spain,  Santiago de Compostela,  and   Portugal, during  Easter of 1.978. 

There have been many recognitions received by the Director and President of this  Chorale,  prize to his shining trajectory, like the Prize "Ajafoña" granted by the Cultural Center and Recreation Casino of Arafo in 1.988, as well as the Prize "Añavingo" in 1.997, that  this  Society grants annually, and that is given within the concert “End of the Year”.  Also, the City council, have  granted  him, the title of “Favorite son of Arafo”, as well as a street with his name: Juan Luis Coello Street

Right now, the  Chorale participates in the Folk Festival, in August, where the main day, as already it is tradition, interprets the “Pontifical Mass” and Aleluya  (Haendel), with musical support of orchestra;  In the concerts of the Santa Cecilia Virgin (Patron Saint of the Music), in November, and " New Year Concert" 1st.  January, that is celebrated in the Arafo’s Auditorium , together with other groups  and individual singers.  However, and throughout the year the activity stays, with rehearsals and diverse performances, since this  chorale has interpreted, all along its life, more than thousand music works.
